Indian Statistical Institute Entrance Exam

Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) organizes an entrance exam know as ISI 2017 to screen candidates for admission in various degree programmes. ISI offers various UG, PG, PhD programme in the field of Statistics, Science & Technology. The major objective of the Indian Statistical Institute is to promote the study and dissemination of knowledge of Statistics, to develop statistical theory and methods, and their use in research and practical applications generally, with special reference to problems of planning of national development and social welfare and to provide for, and undertake, the collection of information, investigation, projects and operational research for purposes of planning and the improvement of efficiency of management and production. This institution has four campuses situated in Chennai, Tezpur, Delhi and Bangalore. Every year, the ISI entrance exam conducted in the month of May.


The entrance exam has been divided into two papers. Paper I will comprise of objective type questions and paper II will contain short answer type questions. Each question will contain four marks. The exam pattern will be different for all the courses. The exam pattern for M.Tech course is given below:

  • The exam comprises of two parts i.e. part 1 and part 2.
  • Part 1 contains multiple choice or descriptive test in Mathematics at UG level.
  • Part 2 comprise of multiple choices or descriptive test in mathematics at UG level and logical reasoning for Group A and for Group B will contain questions from Mathematics, Statistics and Physics at PG level and from Computer Science, Engineering and Technology at B.Tech level.

    Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) Syllubus

    ISI syllabus is different for different courses. Questions will be asked from analytical reasoning and other related subjects and fields with topics of undergraduate or below (10+2) level. Question will come from different topics which are relevant to that course which candidate has applied. To score well in the examination candidates should prepare according to the syllabus.

    B STAT (HONS)/ B MATH (HONS)12th or equivalent exam with Mathematics and English subjects
    M STAT3 years bachelor degree/B.Tech/BE with statistics subject, or PG Diploma in Statistical Methods with Applications/Statistical Methods and Analytics from ISI, or B Math degree from ISI
    M MATH3 years bachelor degree/B.Tech/BE with mathematics subject and strong background in Analysis and Abstract Algebra or, B Stat degree from ISI

    Indian Statistical Institute Entrance Exam Application

    The ISI 2017 Application Form will be released from the second week of February, 2017. The application form will be filled and submitted via online process through the official site of ISI, except PG Diploma in Statistical Methods and Analytics course. For PG Diploma in Statistical Methods and Analytics course application form can be purchased from ISI North-East Centre by in person or through post. After filling the offline application send it along with the necessary documents to the address mentioned below:

    The application fee payment can be done through debit/credit card or net banking or through the challan of any branch of SBI Bank. The application fee is Rs. 600/- for all general candidates and all JRF programmes and Rs. 300/- for SC/ST/OBC/Physically Challenged categories for all programmes except JRF programmes.

    Candidates who have scored well in the entrance exam will be invited for interview round. The admission will be based on marks obtained by the candidates in the entrance exam and interview. For admission in M.Tech course, candidates with GATE score card will be directly invited for interview round. Candidates are required to report with original required documents to confirm their admission.

    The ISI 2017 Admit Card will be released by the authority in the first week of April, 2017. Candidates will receive a link related to information about admit card in their account. Candidates can download the admit card through the official site. The admit card will contain details such as exam center, exam date & timing, candidates name & roll number, etc.

    Candidates can check the ISI 2017 Result in the month of June, 2017. The result will be released through the official site of ISI. Candidates are advised to take the printout of result and keep it safe till the admission process. Candidates will be required to view the result or score card at the time of counselling or admission.
