Admission shall be open to the candidates who have passed prescribed qualifying examination with not less than 50% (45% in case of SC/ST) of the marks in aggregate of all the semesters/years of degree examination and the should have qualified in GATE.

Admission is on the basis of rank obtained in GATE and AIT admits students as per prevailing rules and regulations of VTU.
Course Details
This course was started in 1982, currently with an intake of 25 seats. This course deals with processing and controlling of electrical energy flow by supplying voltages ranging from a few watts to several mega watts, suited for the user loads. The application includes in wide spectrum such as heating and lighting control, AC and DC power supplies, electric motor control, energy conservation, process control and factory automation, transportation, HVDC, FACTS devices, power quality improvement etc. This branch of engineering also deals with advanced topics in microprocessors and microcontrollers that are needed in power electronics engineer.
